Technology has become an important part of children’s daily lives. Many children use
smartphones, tablets, televisions, and other digital devices for entertainment,
communication, and learning. Although technology offers clear benefits, its excessive use
may negatively affect children’s behavior and family relationships. This review paper
examines the influence of children’s technology use on family ties and behavior, with special
attention to the context of Saudi Arabia. The study is based on document analysis of previous
research, reports, and academic literature. The review focuses on family communication,
emotional closeness, children’s behavior, and interaction patterns at home. The findings
suggest that excessive screen time may reduce face-to-face communication, limit shared
family activities, and contribute to behavioral problems such as irritability, distraction,
emotional dependence on devices, and social withdrawal. At the same time, the literature
shows that technology can support learning and family connection when used in a balanced
and guided way. The paper concludes that technology is not harmful in itself; rather, its
effects depend on how often and how wisely it is used. Strong parental guidance, reasonable
limits, and regular offline interaction are essential for maintaining healthy family ties and
positive behavior among children.
